Years ago, a perfect smile could be yours thanks to good genes or years of braces. Invisalign® has since entered the scene as a popular alternative for dental correction. Here’s what this recent cosmetic treatment has to offer.
Nearly Invisible
Even if you aren’t familiar with Invisalign®, chances are you’ve met someone with them. That’s because the clear appearance of this corrective device is designed for practical invisibility. In other words, realigning your teeth doesn’t have to cramp your style. Take as many pictures as your little heart desires because Invisalign® keeps things subtle.
You may have heard that braces stand in the way of important photos. It’s not unheard of for patients to digitally remove their braces or schedule their treatment around major life events. Lucky for you, Invisalign® removes that barrier. Attend as many weddings, parties, graduations or gatherings as you’d like without giving it a second thought.
Easily Removable
As anyone with braces can attest, removing your corrective device changes the game completely. Braces can make eating a challenge while certain foods are completely off-limits. Removing your Invisalign® lets you eat without adjustments and without sacrificing delicious eats. As another bonus, removable aligners let you take better care of your teeth. It goes without saying that brackets get in the way when brushing and flossing. Invisalign® provides access to every area of your mouth for better dental hygiene.
Relatively Comfortable
When it comes to cosmetic treatment, braces and Invisalign® do correct the placement of your teeth. This process is anything but immediate, though the gradual shift may cause some discomfort. Even so, braces tend to have more drawbacks where sensitivity is concerned. Rubber bands may snap, wires sometimes break and unfortunate sports injuries could cause added damage to surrounding tissue. Invisalign® is made of medical-grade plastic and is relatively comfortable to wear. Patients may experience some soreness, though it’s nothing too painful. Try drinking cold water or wearing new aligners while you’re sleeping to relieve any discomfort. Ultimately speaking, Invisalign® is still considered a more comfortable alternative.
Faster Results
It’s not uncommon for patients with braces to require years of orthodontic care. Everyone’s teeth are different, so the time required varies from one patient to the next. However, Invisalign® yields the same results in a slightly shorter time frame. The treatment timeline is also more predictable than that of traditional braces.
If you’re deciding between braces or Invisalign®, doing some research may be worth your while. Both are viable options to correct tooth alignment, but Invisalign® certainly has its upsides.
